Shelf-Knob Sea Rod

Eunicea succinea

One of the knobby sea rods, the Shelf Knob is one of a family of Octocorals whose polyps build calyces that look like little shelves protruding from the branches. The outside edge of the rim is often upturned like a little hook. Most of the species on this page are of the type that grow in a candelabrum-shape. Colors are mostly yellow-green, greenish-grey or grayish brown with matching polyp colors. They inhabit both shallow waters (3 feet) to deeper (50 feet) waters.
