Reef Squirrelfish

Neoniphon coruscum

The small Reef Squirrelfish is easily recognized by the thin body stripes. They have a more reddish appearance than the orange colored Dusky Squirrelfish. Their horizontal body stripes are much thinner then the Dusky's and the Reef Squirrelfishes that inhabit the shallow waters are smaller than the Dusky is smaller. Although another identifying mark of the Reef Squirrelfish is the black blotch on the first dorsal fins, and white tips, I've seen  what otherwise looks like a Dusky Squirrelfish (see pictures numbered 2 & 8) with the same attributes.  Could it be a hybrid?
