Pillar Coral

Dendrogyra cylindrus

Pillar Coral firsts encrusts the substrate and then starts growing in tall columns or spires. Most here are light brown to golden brown, a few are a darker brown.  There are some colonies that have spires growing upwards of 8 feet or more. They can be seen at almost any depth to 65 feet. They grow from the sea floor or encrust vertical walls.
