Orchistoma pileus

These one inch diameter, domed members of the Hydmedusae Family was found floating near the mangroves, far from open water where they are usually found. It's distinctive feature is the round bulb organ on the dome where each tentacle attaches to it. This individual was probably carried into the bay by the surface wave action from the constant, fairly high winds we'd been having. Being of the Cnidarian family, their toxic tentacles can cause a sting, especially to sensitive skin.
